| Dead Fish along Leonardo on Saturday, July 12, 2008 On Saturday, July 12, 2008, local resident Donna from Leonardo, reported many fish washing up at the foot of Leonard and Beach Aves in Leonardo by Conover Beacon Lighthouse. It seemed to her to be mainly fluke with a few smaller blow fish, and of course live crabs. Fish and game wardens were notified as well as Middletown Health Dept.
Later in that day, NJ Fish and Game called Middletown Health Dept and County Hazmat. They all determined approx. 200 dead undersized fluke must have been dumped by a commercial fishing troller. It was contained to foot of Leonard and Beach Ave, no drums, no oil slicks, sea gulls were fine, etc.
Next tide will take it away for scavengers in the bay (unless of course the next tide pushes up the outfall pipe into my yard) so they documented it but that was it.
