Lyrics to The Great Tidal Waters of Raritan Bay

The Great Tidal Waters of Raritan Bay*

CHORUS:

OH, I could be happy living my days along the great tidal waters of Raritan Bay.

The People that lived here 300 or 400 hundred years ago called the old wise man of the village – sachem.

Once the Sachem told the story of the land the Great Spirit blessed. And the people followed the legend from the great waters in the west.

>They came to a place where the fishing was good, the soil was fertile, and game ran in the woods.

CHORUS

Well, next came the explorers, then came the traders - their own fortunes all to find. And the region treated them kindly with the farmers following close behind.

>And their ships sailed well laden around the tip of the hook with oysters from Keyport and wood from Middletown.

CHORUS

Well maybe it’s the moonshine, maybe it’s the starlight reflecting off old Sandy Hook Bay. Maybe it’s the fog rolling off the Highlands at the break of a brand new day.

>But Striped Bass and Bluefish, Apple Cider and Corn make the people of this region glad they were born.

CHORUS
