Re: 3/27/07 KBC Special Meeting - Trinity LLC Liquor License

There will be a Keyport Borough Council (KBC) Special Meeting this Tuesday 3/27/07 starting at 7:00 PM at Borough Hall for the continuation of a hearing on Charles Merla's application for a Person-to-Person and Place-to-Place Liquor License Transfer. The application is to relocate liquor license # 1322-33-003-008 to the former location of the First Church of Christ at 84 Broad Street for use in a restaurant/bar. Discussions at the 2/6/07 KBC hearing indicated that the basement will contain a bar and lounge, the first floor and outside patio will contain a serving bar and seating for the restaurant, and the second floor loft will contain a third bar. There will be three locations for bands. At the 2/6/07 KBC hearing on this application, a recess was called until more documentation is provided by the applicant concerning license ownership issues and the ABC investigation is completed by the Keyport Police Depatment as required by law.

Re: New Indictments for Spalliero Mention Bribery of a Keyport Official

A page 1 article in the 3/21/07 Asbury Park Press (APP) indicated that the latest indictments against Marlboro developer Anthony Spalliero charges him with making a corrupt payment to a Keyport official in exchange for that official's influence over the Keyport Planning Board. Information released by the US Attorney's Office on Tuesday indicated that this influence was sought for a four-unit residential development and the payment was for $5000. See the APP for additional details and their input on the name of the Keyport official receiving the corrupt payment.

The Keyport Harbor Commission (KHC) held a Special Meeting on March 19, 2007 at 7:00PM to discuss the Green Acres waterfront park area behind the bulkhead. The KHC laid out a plan for this area that featured
  • Roadway restoration parallel to the bulkhead with 171 car parking spaces between the roadway and the back of the stores to support access for fishing boat and charter boat patrons, for provisioning of the boats docked on the waterfront, and for easy senior citizen access  to the fishing pier.
  • Seventeen trailer-parking spaces were also proposed for boaters using the boat ramp.

This proposal was documented with a computer generated layout titled "waterfront parking lot conceptual plan".
